Race Info - Run Surrey Run 2021
vIRTUAL RACE will be held June 1-15, 2021
Registration opens February 16, 2021 and will close on May 25, 2021
Running and walking are among the most popular activities in the world today. Consumer research reveals that improving fitness, losing weight and staying in shape are the most common reasons for engagement followed by relieving stress and having fun. Like all physical activity, regular walks and runs can improve cardiovascular function and reduce body fat, as well as improving the mental health of adherents to these exercise regimes.
As a 5K/10K Walk/Run our event is destined to become an annual celebratory occasion for residents of the area-although the global pandemic has played havoc with the scheduling and resulted in the postponement of the inaugural race. In 2021 the event will be held as a virtual one as per the outline covered in Race Etiquette. We hope to return to a “normal” run in 2022. Another aspect of Run Surrey Run is that it is being staged by Balsar Community Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Surrey with a history of environmental activism with regard to reducing and eliminating synthetic materials like Styrofoam and assorted single-use plastic products. As a result every component of our run will be carefully scrutinized to insure that strong environmental messages and practices, like the proper clean-up of event garbage, will be included.
Our currently untimed road race places more emphasis on fun and exercise than it does on competition. It is open to novice and experienced walkers and runners and all levels of endurance in between as well as participants of all ages and athletic ability. It will be a clean and green event and, once COVID has been conquered, our mandate will be re-examined to consider how to we can promote the event for the greater good of the people of Surrey and the many endeavours of its broad charitable community.
